It was on Christmas day in 1946 that the legendary Jimmy Buffett was born in Mississippi. He spent much of his early days in Alabama, first discovering his love of music playing trombone in his school band. Buffett studied at Auburn University, where he first began playing the guitar. It was in 1970 that he released 'Down to Earth', his first recorded album. Buffett was well known at this time for his busking around the New Orleans area. It was when Buffett moved to Key West in the 1970's that his music took on the easy going genre that he is so well known for. At first, during his time in Key West, he played in the bar of the Pier House Motel. His music began to take on a wonderful combination of rock, pop, folk and country style music. Buffett drew inspiration for his music from the Caribbean islands. He is still a regular visitor to St Bart's. It was in 1973 that Buffett launched 'A White Coat and a Pink Crustacean', followed by 'Dying in 3/4 Time' and 'Havana Daydreaming' in 1976. Buffett's song for which he is so well known is 'Margaritaville' which was recorded on his 1977 album 'Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes'. With the success of 'Margaritaville', Buffett moved into merchandising and opened a 'Margaritaville' shop in Key West, followed by a cafe. He also launched several out of character albums, including one that was a collection of Christmas songs. The 2000's followed with continued success. Radio Margaritaville was established, and new albums continued to be released. To date, he has released more than 30 albums, 9 of which are considered Platinum or Multi Platinum. Another 8 are considered to be Gold. Buffett's latest album is 'Songs from St. Somewhere' which was released in 2013.
